Perry has the father of actor Laurie Metcalf, and Jeff Perry. She made her first appearances in television shows as Jackie Harris, a character played by her mother in the ABC comedy Roseanne. Her parents, however, were not keen to let her perform until she turned an adult fearing the effect of stress. Perry was a shy teenager and was not a performer. The actress began her acting career in the year 2000 at Northwestern University to gain friends as she moved from Boston University. Perry had the opportunity to secure tiny TV roles on Law & Order: Criminal Intent after she graduated. Homesickness, however, caused her to move back to California again where she began working in the stage. She appeared on Broadway with her mother in The Other Place with her mother in the year 2013. She appeared in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winner Anna Christie, along with Kevin McKidd. This was presented in the West Los Angeles' Odyssey Theatre Ensemble. Perry played nine roles in The Family, an ABC drama The Family, in 2016. Her father played her character in her role on the ABC Drama Scandal. That same year she portrayed a child version of Mary Cooper on Young Sheldon (a CBS spinoff The Big Bang Theory), portraying her mother in a youthful version. The character was picked via auditions though she had a close association with it.
